If anyone knows of any internships that pay well in Cola for the summer, hit me up. I can’t come home.

Thanksgiving Eve: A 10 Point College Tutorial → americandrink.net

americandrink:

Little known fact: Tonight is one of the heaviest drinking nights for college kids, an 80-proof homecoming dance where I’m the chaperone and the kids try to get you to smell all of the alcohol on their breath.

On a busy night, my bar will clear $2000-$3000 in liquor sales, but on the night before…

haha Interesting alcohol fact!

What a great feeling it is to realize your parents can’t help you at all. Not that they did before. I really need to be financially independent somehow.

What a tease!

Everyone is so excited for Thanksgiving blahdy blahdy blah… (I am too; it’s better that xmas in my opinion for many reasons) but this is a false sense of comfort.

As soon as we get comfortable in the holiday routine, BAM! It’s time to go back to school for another week (of hell no doubt) then it’s finals. It’s like the calendar is giving us blueballs for winter break.

Flippin’ great.

“Socialising with alcohol is fun and we should not pretend otherwise. We also shouldn’t fool ourselves into thinking that young adults won’t eventually discover this and want to do it themselves. There is a reason why a taste for alcohol is not specific to a single demographic in society; why it is not something we ‘grow out of’ and why, no matter how many times the NHS warns of it detrimental effects, we won’t stop drinking the stuff. That’s because chatting with friends over a pint or a bottle of wine is an enjoyable cultural tradition: the fuel of conversation, intimacy and the exchange of ideas.” —

Suzy Dean.

(via [The Awl]: bbook)

And…

“We should be encouraging young adults to drink sensibly, but to do this we need to be honest. We do regularly drink more than the government’s daily recommendation of two pints or glasses of wine and there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s also nothing wrong with a drink to unwind, relax and forget about our stressful day at work. More people need to stand up and say this in order to combat the moralising of anti-alcohol campaigners. We need to integrate young people into our drinking culture earlier, making sure that they learn how to drink rather than forcing them to first encounter alcohol in hiding on a park bench.”

(via americandrink) I agree with this wholeheartedly.
